Grab your cheese and crackers as Wallace and Gromit have landed on a BRAND NEW UK 50p! 30 Years after the British animation comedy duo first appeared in A Grand Day Out, they land on the surface of a brand new 2019 UK 50p coin. Issued in partnership with Aardman Animations and designed by Wallace and Gromit creator, Nick Park, this brand new UK 50p is certain to prove. The beagle has landed! 30 years after A Grand Day Out was first shown in November 1989, the film’s stars Wallace and Gromit land on the surface of a 50p coin. Over three decades, the inseparable duo have become household favourites in the UK and beyond. Their breakthrough success was followed up with more wonderful adventures and they became a must-see TV. The Royal Mint has launched a Wallace and Gromit 50p coin to mark 30 years since the famous duo first hit British screens. The coin features the cheese-loving inventor, his dog and the outer shell of the rocket ship that took the pair to the moon. It is inscribed with ‘CASEUS PRAESTANS’, which translates to ‘cracking cheese’.

Not many details have been revealed yet, though we have our fingerscrossed that the plasticine pair will indeed be featured on a UK coin.

In fact, later this year the cheery inventor and hisfaithful ‘Dogwarts’-educated canine companion will be celebrating the 30th anniversary of theirvery first stop-motion animation that’s become a classic – “A Grand Day Out”. AndI’m sure you’d agree – a commemorative coin would be the perfect way tocelebrate this milestone anniversary.

On the 23rd March the Gruffalo celebrated its 20th birthday, and to markthis landmark publication anniversary a brandnew UK 50p was released. This was the first time ever the popularchildren’s book character had appeared on UK coinage.

To say the releasewas popular is an understatement, as fans and collectors alike were quickto snap up the coin. Collectors were so quick in fact that the silver and gold proof versions – withedition limits of 25,000 and 600 respectively – completely sold out at The Royal Mint within 12 hours of release.

This made it the fastestselling 50p to date!

No doubt the question on everyone’s lips now is what willhappen when Wallace and Gromit arrive at The Royal Mint – will they beappearing on a UK coin and if so will we see another record breaking sell-out?But perhaps the biggest question of all – will it be made of cheese?

After weeks of anticipation, The Royal Mint has now released the first ever Wallace and Gromit 50p to celebrate 30 cracking years of the British Comedy duo.

Originally a small concept in Nick Park’s student sketchbook, Wallace and Gromit have become instantly recognisable stars of the silver screen!

The pair now feature in 4 stop-motion animation short films: A Grand Day Out (1989), The Wrong Trousers (1993), A Close Shave (1995), A matter of Loaf a Death (2008) and the full-length feature film, The Curse of the Were-Rabbit, released in 2005.

An Original Nick Park Design

Excitingly, the reverse of this new 50p has been designed by none other than Nick Park himself!

The original artist behind the popular animation characters, Nick’s artwork has created a truly authentic design for the coin which is certain to be a hit with fans and collectors alike.

Featuring Wallace and Gromit peering out of the spaceshipthey took to the moon, fans will certainly resonate with this adaptation of thefamous film scene.

What’s more, the initials ‘NP’ have been struck onto the design to confirm the design by Nick Park.

As of today the FIRST EVER Wallace and Gromit UK 50p has officially taken off!

The new coin is available in Brilliant Uncirculated quality in both Official Change Checker packaging and Royal Mint packaging.

A Silver Proof version of the coin has also been issued, featuring selected colour printing to really bring the design to life. Just 25,000 Silver Proof coins are available and given the popularity of Wallace and Gromit and the sell-out stories we’ve seen with other UK 50p issues this year (like The Gruffalo® 50p), collectors wanting one of these will certainly need to act quickly.

Excitingly, this 50p has also been issued in a Gold Proof design! Limited to just 630 pieces, this one is a real collector item.
