Value of 1881 Morgan Silver Dollar The 1881 Morgan silver dollar was struck in large quantities at the Philadelphia mint. Quite a few bags were released in the 1950s and 1960s; indeed, so many that in 1955 one dealer offered rolls of 20 Uncirculated coins for $25, equivalent to $1.25 per coin. Today, circulated specimens are very common. Morgan’s design makes the Morgan Dollar the most popular of any Silver dollar design. This 1881-S Morgan Dollar has been graded and guaranteed by PCGS as being MS-64.
The silver strike called the Comstock Lode, the largest in U.S. History, gave birth to the Carson City Mint (‘CC’).The Carson City Mint coined Morgans for only 13 years between 1878 and 1893, a paltry 2% of all Morgan Dollars minted.
